The corporate good and the common good
Our commitment to sustainability is rooted in our 80-year history of what Tom Kearney called the "essential rightness" of the advice we give. Tom strongly believed, and instilled in the firm he built, that it is our duty to improve the world in which we live as we build our business. How we do this changes over time, and today we have an unprecedented opportunity—and responsibility—to connect the corporate good with the common good.
As management consultants, it is our mission to powerfully imagine and rigorously research the future to inform the present so that we help our clients achieve sustainable success. And, today, truly sustainable success is possible only by harmonising economic, social and environmental factors.
Managing to this "triple bottom line" requires anticipating and capitalizing on the drivers of change. A.T. Kearney Australia has taken a lead role in building the global sustainablity practice group. We are working with a number of clients to address critical sustainability issues. These include an evaluation of investment options, assessment of the impact of a carbon trading scheme and an operational improvement to reduce waste. Internally, we have initiatives in place surrounding office energy use, recycling, and the use of technology to replace travel. Together, these initiatives are intended to reduce our carbon footprint to meet A.T. Kearney's global reduction target of 20% between 2007 and 2010.
A.T. Kearney Australia also recognises the importance of social sustainability. We have worked with a number of not-for-profit organisations, on a pro-bono basis. These organisations, such as Australia Cares, The Smith Family, Committee for Melbourne and the Minimbah Challenge, benefit from A.T. Kearney's deep business expertise and structured approach to problem solving.
