Monday

9:00 a.m.
Project Kick-Off
I've been staffed on a very exciting project, and today is day. I meet my team for breakfast to discuss the context, scope, and workplan for the project. The client is an online classifieds company and they want us to help them understand if their industry is attractive, and if it is, how can they become number one. Really cool stuff!

Client Kick-Off
We spend the rest of the morning with the CEO and management team discussing our proposed approach for the project. They're as excited as we are to get going.
6:00 p.m.
Team Dinner
All afternoon, we interview members of the management team and gather facts and figures to build our understanding of the industry and the business. Now it's time to get to know the team better during dinner at one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney.

Tuesday

6:00 a.m.
Morning Run
A bunch of the consultants in the Sydney office are running a half-marathon this year, and we make an effort to meet every week to train together.
8:00 a.m.
Profit Model
My main task today is to build a profit model in Excel that allows us to properly understand the financial structure, key value drivers, and historical trends of the business. Better get going!
12:00 p.m.
Manager One-on-One
I sit down with my manager for lunch and we discuss how the profit model is going, as well as my development goals and non-project commitments over the course of the project. I tell him about the half-marathon and turns out he's training for one too.

Wednesday

9:00 a.m.
Expert Invterviews
Our team got in touch with an industry expert at a leading software company, so we head over to their office in Sydney to hear his perspective on the current and future state of the industry. Great discussion and really cool office!
11:00 a.m.
Client Collaboration
We have a very collaborative working style at A.T. Kearney, so I booked in a time with the CFO to discuss the progress of the model thus far. He's very happy and helps get me the rest of the data I need to finish up the analysis.

Competitor Analysis
We have a very collaborative working style at A.T. Kearney, so I booked in a time with the CFO to discuss the progress of the model thus far. He's very happy and helps get me the rest of the data I need to finish up the analysis.
2:00 p.m.
Website Browsing
It's not what you think! I'm actually doing research on our competitors! It's really interesting how the other sites operate and it's amazing how much our team has learned about the industry in just four days.

Friday

9:00 a.m.
Colleague Catch-ups
On Fridays all the consultants return from the client sites to their home offices to catch-up with their colleagues. I start the morning with a green tea on our lovely outdoor terrace overlooking the Sydney skyline and harbour, while catching up with a colleague who just returned from a project in the U.S.
12:00 p.m.
Weekly Debrief
My entire project team is based in the Melbourne office, so we hop on a teleconference to debrief about the week. We've made a tonne of progress so far.
4:00 p.m.
Drink Cart
The famous drink cart comes strolling down the office, so I grab a drink, finish up my last piece of work, and then join some of the consultants for dinner at a new restaurant in the city. A great way to finish up the week!
